Awa Kujabi is a Gambian healthcare professional and a former nurse who successfully transitioned from The Gambia to Germany through the Au-Pair Cultural Exchange Programme with the guidance and support of the Gambia European Center for Jobs, Migration & Development Agency.
Awa initially applied to the Center as an Au-Pair candidate with the ambition of gaining international experience, improving her personal and professional development, and learning more about German culture and society. Following the successful processing of her application, she was given the opportunity to come to Germany as an Au-Pair.
During her one-year Au-Pair programme, Hawa remained actively engaged with the Center. She received continuous guidance, counselling and support throughout her stay and successfully completed her Au-Pair programme. Her experience helped her develop greater confidence, maturity, independence and a deeper understanding of life and integration in Germany.
Following the successful completion of her Au-Pair programme, awa continued her personal and professional development by starting a Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr (FSJ) in Berlin. Her journey demonstrates how structured cultural exchange and social-service opportunities can contribute to personal growth and integration.
Today, awa is also a co-opted member of the Gambia European Center’s team. Drawing from her own successful migration and integration experience, she supports the Center by communicating with candidates and providing guidance and counselling to individuals interested in Au-Pair, FSJ and other integration pathways to Germany.
Awa’s personal journey—from a nurse in The Gambia, to an Au-Pair participant in Germany, and now an active contributor to the guidance of other candidates—makes her a valuable example of successful migration, cultural exchange, personal development and community support.
Her experience and dedication continue to inspire other young Gambians who aspire to pursue safe, informed and meaningful opportunities in Germany.
